Dan’s Daily: Celebrini Cha-Ching; Nikishin Trade Talk; Penguins Complete - Pittsburgh Hockey Now

The NHL trade chatter picked up again around Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Alexander Nikishin, but it’s not the Pittsburgh Penguins who are publicly named as the suitor. The San Jose Sharks opened their wallet and then backed up the Brinks truck to Macklin Celebrini, making him the highest-paid player in the game. Sportsnet projected which pending free agents could actually hit the market next summer, and the Wheeling Nailers did the Penguins one last solid. I’d love to tell you that I had a great time at the Pirates game Wednesday and they looked good, but their bats were silent. At least Manny’s loaded mac ‘n cheese always hits the spot. So, instead of a story or anything interesting, I have an honest question. I haven’t bought new furniture in a long time, but I needed a new couch. After shopping, why is every recliner, even couches, electric? What, the lever or leaning back was too difficult? Too affordable? So, instead of throwing out your feet, you have to wait 10 seconds to retract just to get up. Who thought this was progress? Today at 12:05 is presumably the last live chat and podcast. Today’s title is Offseason Grade & Ask Dan Anything. Then we’ll resume in September. Make sure you’re following our YouTube page. And that’s the end of old man yelling at clouds. To the hockey… Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Wheeling Nailers did the Penguins one more favor when they traded prospect Gabriel D’Aigle to the Florida Everblades. If you haven’t been following the situation or just didn’t want to–here’s the conclusion of the potential saga of the Penguins prospect. Pittsburgh Baseball Now: A lost opportunity or cold reality? A bad series returned the Pittsburgh Pirates to behind the wild-card Diamondbacks. Danny Demilio has the takeaways from the Pirates series. Steelers Now: Day 1 of training camp. I can’t believe we’re at that point of the summer already, and Alan Saunders has what you need to know from the start of Steelers training camp. San Jose Hockey Now: Pow. Biff. Kaboom. The San Jose Sharks delivered a massive new contract to Macklin Celebrini. Five years at $18.8 million. That’s the base details. Sheng Peng put it all in a big-picture perspective, and now the clock is ticking on GM Mike Grier and the Sharks rebuild. Sportsnet: The post-silly season silly season is to look ahead to the potential free agents next summer. We know Sidney Crosby and others won’t hit the market, but which UFAs–perhaps Jason Robertson?–will get to free agency? Ottawa Citizen: This little tidbit might spur some trade rumors. Bruce Garrioch reports that sources are telling him that the Ottawa Senators and Drake Batherson are a mile apart on their contract talks. NHLtraderumors.me: Still available? Jeremy Rutherford reports that the St. Louis Blues have circled back to Carolina defenseman Alexander Nikishin and remain interested in snagging the young defenseman. NHL.com: Team reset. It’s been a big summer for the Penguins’ biggest rival as the Washington Capitals went on an acquisition spree, highlighted by Jordan Kyrou. Take a look at the summer take on the Capitals’ offseason.
